It’s been a long time since we had a Grow A Garden impressive pet. There have been some decent pets, but nothing that held its value for more than a couple of days.
That might be about to change, with the newest, rarest pet; the Headless Horseman pet, which dropped as part of the Halloween update. If you want to find out all about the new super OP pet, keep on reading…

The Grow A Garden Halloween update dropped Saturday, the 11th of October, and is likely to be a three-week update, as it’s three weeks until Halloween. For the first week of the update, they dropped a brand new egg; the Spooky Egg.
We can purchase the Spooky Egg using the Candy Corn currency, which you earn by either filling up the Witches’ Cauldron every 2 minutes, or by handing Halloween fruits to the Ancient Jack-O-Lantern. Both of these methods will give you Candy Corn currency.
I personally skip the Witches’ Cauldron completely, and just load up my inventory with Poison Apples, and wait for the Jack-O-Lantern every 2 hours. With a full inventory of Poison Apples, every 2 hours, I get on average 28 to 38 Spooky Eggs, and it’s SO much quicker than going back and forth trying to fill up the Cauldron over and over.
Plus, this method gets you WAY more Candy Corn currency. Sure, you get the “trick” pop-up pumpkin sometimes, but you end up loaded up with eggs and Candy Corn, so the Jack-O-Lantern once every two hours is so much better.
Inside the Spooky Egg, there are five brand new pets we can hatch:
- Bat – 45% chance
- Bone Dog – 28% chance
- Spider – 18% chance
- Black Cat – 8.5% chance
- Headless Horseman – 0.5% chance

The Headless Horseman pet is the first 0.5% pet we’ve had in months. We’ve had 1% top tier pets for every egg since the Prehistoric update, so pets didn’t really hold their values, as they’re so much easier to obtain.
I managed to get my Headless Horseman pet in my first 8 eggs, and it ended up being a decent size, as I always use Brontosaurus pets to hatch my eggs, to boost their hatch weights.
The design of this new pet is truly amazing. It’s a black horse with orange glowing eyes, and glowing orange cubes surrounding its legs as it walks around your garden.
The Headless Horseman is on the back of the horse, with a black cape and a glowing pumpkin head, and the orange glowing cubes surround the Headless Horseman’s head too, which move when the horse is walking around.
It’s such a tall pet too, as it’s on horseback, and if you get a decent hatch size, it ends up looking even bigger, with bigger glowing orange cubes.

What Does The Grow A Garden Headless Horseman Pet Do?
Every 39:44 minutes, haunts a random level 49.27 pet without a mutation, resetting it to level 1 and bestowing one of four chaotic mutations: Dreadbound, Soulflame or Spectral, with a rare 6.25% chance for Nightmare.
So, this pet can mutate an age 49 pet in your garden (only pets that don’t have a current mutation) with one of four mutations.
The most common mutations are Dreadbound, Soulflame and Spectral, but the best and hardest mutation to get is Nightmare.
The Headless Horseman pet works with rainbow hatched Dilophosaurus, 15 second peacocks, toys and the Mimic Octopus, which is amazing, as the Chincilla pet doesn’t work with any of these pets or methods.
Here are the four mutations the Headless Horseman can give your pets:
- Dreadbound: gains an extra 6 XP per second.
- Soulflame: provides an additional 60% boost to pet’s XP per second. Every 15 minutes, a nearby fruit has a 30% chance to get the Burnt mutation, and a lower chance for the Flaming mutation.
- Spectral: provides a small (1.08x) increase to the pet’s passive ability.
- Nightmare: provides a bigger increase to the pet’s passive (1.22x) and is slightly bigger in size (125% size boost).
People are going crazy for the Headless Horseman pet because the Nightmare mutation is better than the Rainbow mutation, which, until now, was the best mutation to get, to improve the passive abilities for every single pet.
I spent most of today trying to get Nightmare on my four Bald Eagles, using the massive stockpile of Levelup Lollipops from DJ Jhai admin abuse events, and it was definitely worth the grind, as all four now have a higher multiplier, making egg hatching even quicker.
I’m tempted to try and tackle my French Fry Ferrets next, but as I have another two Headless Horseman pets (so far), I might try and get one of those Nightmare, to see how the ability is amplified with Nightmare on the Headless Horseman.
It’s the first Prismatic pet we’ve had since the Kitsune and Corrupted Kitsune, and the ability is genuinely amazing, so grind for those Spooky Eggs while you can.
Also, make sure you use Brontosaurus pets when hatching, so it’ll perform its ability on younger pets – my age 100 Headless Horseman, which weighs 24.70kg, now does its ability every 25 mins, and on age 30 pets, which is so much better than the age 49.27 pet stat it had on hatch.
