If you use the Grow A Garden Discord or Reddit, you’ll have seen many, many posts from people looking to trade for the raccoon pet in-game.
Right now, there are a total of 36 different pets available within the game, most of which are through the “eggs”, but there are also three pets which are exclusive to the Blood Moon shop. But, why is the raccoon pet so popular? Keep on reading for the full low-down, from a player that actually owns the raccoon.

The raccoon is a Grow A Garden pet, and the only way you get it, is through the Night Eggs.
The Night Eggs are a reward through the Wise Old Owl in the center of the field, where you can do the reward track quest, giving him your moonlit fruit and bloodlit fruit, in exchange for prizes.
If you do the Lunar Glow reward track quest, you’ll earn prizes for the amount of moonlit fruit and bloodlit fruit, and the prizes you can win are:
- Hedgehog Pet
- Night Seed Packs
- Night Staffs
- Night Eggs
- Kiwi Pet
- Owl
You can purchase Night Eggs with Robux, when you click the Night Eggs display on the Wise Old Owl Lunar Glow display.
They are 199 Robux to purchase individually, 3 x Night Eggs for 575 Robux and 10 x Night Eggs for 1699 Robux.
You can also now purchase Night Eggs during the new Blood Moon event, which happens 33.3% of the time, during the on the hour, every hour night time mode. Two times out of three, you’ll get the usually nighttime, where the moon changes your fruits to moonlit, but one time out of three, you’ll get the Blood Moon event.
During the Blood Moon event, there’s a pop-up Blood Moon Shop on the Owl’s moon display, in the center of the field, and through this shop, you can purchase a number of super rare items.
One of the items you can purchase through the Blood Moon Shop is Night Eggs, but they are super expensive. They are 25,000,000 (25 million Sheckles) each.
I get why they are so expensive, as the pets inside the Night Eggs are all truly great pets, with great benefits.
Inside the Night Eggs, you will get one pet from the following animals:
- Hedgehog 49% chance
- Mole 22% chance
- Frog 14% chance
- Echo Frog 10% chance
- Night Owl 4% chance
- Raccoon 1% chance

Why Is The Grow A Garden Raccoon Pet So Popular?
Firstly, the raccoon design is absolutely adorable. The raccoon was my number one dreamie pet from the 36 pets, because it’s so very cute, and now I have the raccoon myself, it’s not just visually adorable, but it acts adorably too, as it skips about your garden with animated head movements.
The raccoon is insanely hard to get, because it’s not included within the “egg shop” part of the pet shop, which refreshes every 30 minutes.
Yes, you can now buy the eggs within the Blood Moon Shop, but it’s so hard to get a blood moon event, and you’re not guaranteed that the Night Eggs will even be in stock; those and the Night Seed Packs are both so rare within the blood moon events.
Not only is it hard to get the Night Eggs, but you only have a 1% chance of getting the raccoon, and whenever you add scarcity as a factor, it always makes people want something more, so the fact the raccoon is so difficult to get, only makes people want it more.
However, what makes the raccoon so popular, is the raccoon.
All of the Grow A Garden pets offer a different benefit, and you can have up to three pets in the base game, but you can unlock an extra 5 pets, when you trade in your aged pets, so you can have up to eight pets in your garden.
Each pet offers something different, but the raccoon offers a very cheeky yet lucrative benefit.

Does the Grow A Garden Raccoon Pet Steal From Other Players?
“Every 14:46 minutes, the raccoon goes to another player’s plot and steals (duplicates) a random crop and gives it to you!“.
We all know, that in Grow A Garden, if you play in a communal server, you can steal any crop from any player’s garden, *if* they haven’t used the favorite tool, which locks the crops, so nobody can steal them.
It does cost 37 Robux to do this, and it announces the theft to the entire server, but it’s a horrible feature in my opinion. If someone pays those 37 Robux, and steals a crop from you, you can’t ever get it back.
Does the Grow A Garden Raccoon steal crops? No, it doesn’t, actually.
When I hatched my raccoon, I was worried about the “stealing” aspect, as the description says both “steals” and “duplicates” – so which is it?
I decided to test the feature for myself, to know for sure (I tested three times with different crops to see what happens)
- I used my private server, and had myself and my alt account join on different devices.
- On my alt account (that had never played before) I planted just two carrots.
- After 15 minutes, the raccoon walks out of my garden and strolls across the field into my alt account’s garden (yes, the other person can *see* the raccoon doing this by the way).
- It goes up to the crop and “bites” it, and then carries the crop in its mouth, whilst it walks over to wherever you are.
- You then get a pop-up message on the screen in white writing which reads “Your Raccoon stole a Carrot from XYZ’s farm!”
- The raccoon then walks back into your farm.

I was worried there would be an announcement about the raccoon’s theft, but there is absolutely nothing for the other players to read.
You just get the announcement that it happened, and obviously, see your raccoon walking across the field into another garden, and then carrying said crop in its mouth.
Now, does the raccoon STEAL the crop (in that the crop is removed from the other player’s farm), or does the raccoon DUPLICATE the crop (in that it takes the crop, but it doesn’t remove the crop from the tree/bush/plant)?
I have tested three times, with three different crops, and it 100% duplicates the crop, and does not remove the item from the other player’s farm.
You don’t need to worry about stealing crops from other players, when you have the raccoon in your garden, but it’s so cool that it essentially gifts you items for free.

What Kind Of Items Does The Grow A Garden Raccoon Steal?
I did wonder if the raccoon would just duplicate the smallest, most affordable crop, but it really doesn’t. I had my raccoon take a 65kg mango from someone’s mango tree. I couldn’t believe it! It’s also taken a celestial moon melon, a chilled, shocked and frozen coconut and a moon blossom.
So, I think the raccoon looks for lucrative items to “steal” for you, which might be why the raccoon is so popular, and people are dying to get one.
It’s a great little money earner, as it goes and gets the crops for you.
You obviously don’t always get 65kg mangos, and I once got a shocked, frozen strawberry, which was worth 1000 sheckles, but it’s better than nothing!

The raccoon I opened was a Blood Moon Shop Night Egg I purchased. I don’t know if that had anything to do with the luck, rather than the “free” eggs you get for the Lunar Glow Reward Track, but my raccoon egg was one I bought with sheckles.
It is named Mall, was age 10, weighed 3.64kg, and the value of the raccoon, incase anyone was interested, was 1,805,265 sheckles.
Is the grind worth it, to get the raccoon? Absolutely. He is so cute, and he gets you really cool stuff, without the drama of it actually stealing items from other players.
They don’t lose the item, although they do see the raccoon run into their garden, which is kinda funny.
