The newest Grow A Garden update launched yesterday, and it’s the Chubby Chipmunk Event Update.
The whole premise of the Chubby Chipmunk event, is that we all get one singular Chubby Chipmunk pet for free, and we have to make our Chipmunks heavy, over time, to receive rewards.
It is not a quick event unfortunately, and is something that’s going to take days to complete, but I have some tips on how to boost the weight of your Chubby Chipmunk, to get more Acorn rewards, and increase the weight of your chipmunk as quick as you can.

What Is The Chubby Chipmunk Event In Grow A Garden?
For this event, you have to go to the middle of the map event display, and collect your free singular Chubby Chipmunk.
The colors are randomized, and once you get your Chubby Chipmunk, you have to place it in your garden.
When your Chipmunk is first placed in your garden, the stats will be:
“Every 1:58 minutes, eats a fruit in your garden and gains 0.010KG weight (ignores favorited or single-harvest fruits).
After eating, an Acorn will spawn somewhere! Collecting it grants a random reward.”
The Chipmunk will chose a random fruit in your garden, to eat, every 1:58 minutes. It’ll only eat unfavorited fruit, and each time it eats (at the start) it’ll gain 0.010kg of weight.
Now, this weight increase does increase, the heavier the Chubby Chipmunk gets.
The Chubby Chipmunk does not work like other Grow A Garden pets, in that the age/weight does not increase over time passively.
It will only grow in size (both numerically and visually) when it eats your fruits, so you have no choice but to actively play the game online, if you want to collect the potential rewards. You can AFK the event, but you have to be online for your Chubby Chipmunk to increase in weight.
As your Chubby Chipmunk increases in weight, you’ll unlock rewards on the event display in the center of the map, and those rewards scale as your Chipmunk’s weight increases, with the rewards getting better as it gets bigger.
Once your Chubby Chipmunk meets the different weight milestones, you’ll be able to claim rewards along the way.
Every time your Chipmunk eats a fruit from your garden, an Acorn reward will spawn somewhere on the map (never inside any of the gardens), and you’ll have to hunt the acorn, and walk into it, to claim it. They’re only available for a very short time, so you need to move quickly to hunt them down, so you don’t miss out.
So, we have two ways in which we can get rewards with the Grow A Garden Chubby Chipmunk Event:
- Increasing the size of your chipmunk met over time, and collect rewards from the event display, as it reaches different weight milestones
- Collect the acorn rewards around the map, each time your chipmunk eats a fruit from your garden.

Which Methods Do Not Work In Increasing The Weight Of Your Chubby Chipmunk?
Do not waste your Levelup Lollipops on your Chubby Chipmunk – they do not have any effect on the chipmunk’s weight whatsoever.
Usually, a Levelup Lollipop gives your Grow A Garden pet one level per lollipop, and each level increases the weight of your chipmunk.
The Levelup Lollipops will increase the age of your chipmunk, but make no difference to the weight of your chipmunk.
Again, usually, an increase in age, will increase the passive of the pet, but that is not the case with the chipmunk. Your chipmunk being age 100 from using Levelup Lollipops or French Fry Ferrets will not make the ability of the chipmunk any better, so please don’t waste your Levelup Lollipops on your Chubby Chipmunk.
When it comes to the ability of the Chubby Chipmunk, no pet will have an effect on the passive ability (how quickly the chipmunk eats fruits from your garden, and how much weight it’ll gain) – not the 15-second Peacocks, not the 15-second Mimic Octopus, not titanic Tarantula Hawks, not Titanic Meerkats and not Titanic Queen Bees.
Its time and weight gain cannot be mimicked or refreshed by using pets, but there are things you *can* do to quicken the ability. Keep reading to find out more…

How To Make Your Chubby Chipmunk Super Heavy FAST In Grow A Garden!
With the new NPC on the Chipmunk Display; “Nuts”, if you speak to him, you can hand over any fruits/flowers/vegetables from your garden, and 1500 points will trigger the “Nutty Fever” event.
During the Nutty Fever event, the Chubby Chipmunk will do its ability even quicker. Without the event, at age 1, your Chubby Chipmunk will eat one of your fruits every 1:58 minutes.
However, during the five-minute long Nutty Fever event, it’ll eat one fruit every 30 seconds, so during the 5-minute Nutty Fever, it’ll eat 10 fruits, and gain weight 10 times.
So, you’re going to want to keep the Nutty Fever event running continuously. Every time it ends, give Nuts the NPC another 1500 points worth of fruits.
For this event, you want your garden jam-packed with Prismatic plants, ideally Beanstalks and Sugar Apples, as they give you 6-10 fruits per harvest each time. You need as many high-point fruits as possible.
I have jam-packed my garden with Beanstalks, Sugar Apples and Mangos. Mangos are not high-point fruits, but you can get a lot of fruits per harvest, on a good-sized tree, and they grow back quickly.
Once you’ve harvested your garden, you’re going to want Pixie pets in your garden alongside your Chubby Chipmunk, as they help your crops grow quickly immensely, or you could use Flamingos.
With the Pixie, they circle in one place (use Pancake Stacks if you have them), and make everything grow quickly, so when you go back and harvest more after the Nutty Fever event ends, everything has grown back already.

When you’re collecting your Acorn rewards around the map, there’s a 0.24% chance to get a Nutty Pet Shard as one of the rewards, and this shard will give any pet the Nutty pet mutation.
The Nutty Pet Shard does the following: “Every 19:42 minutes, the pet’s next ability use has a 20% chance to activate twice, otherwise the pet will lose a level.”
That means, every 20 minutes, there’s a 20% chance your chosen pet will do its ability twice in a row. There is an 80% chance it won’t do it (you get notified on the screen if it was successful or unsuccessful), and if it is unsuccessful, it will lose 1 year of age.
If you manage to get the Nutty Pet Shard, put it on your Chubby Chipmunk immediately. Losing 1 year of age will have zero impact on the Chubby Chipmunk, as age makes no difference to the weight. So, if your Chipmunk is 5kg in weight, and becomes age 1, it will stay at 5kg regardless.
Losing 1 year of age for every failed Nutty Shard ability will not ruin your Chubby Chipmunk, but the best part of this tactic, is that you can refresh the Nutty Pet Shard ability.
Whilst we cannot refresh the Chubby Chipmunk’s ability with pets, we can use pets to refresh the Nutty Pet Shard, as this is how you get your Chubby Chipmunk heavy quicker.
To quicken your Nutty Pet Shard timer, you can use any of these following pets, with bigger, rainbow or aged versions having a better effect:
- Peacocks
- Meerkats
- Tarantula Hawks
- Wasps
- Queen Bees
All of these pets will have a positive effect on reducing the cooldown time of the Nutty Pet Shard, and when you combine this with the Nutty Fever Event quickening the Chubby Chipmunk’s ability, you’re going to make your Chubby Chipmunk increase in weight quickly, but also get more Acorn Rewards around your map.

As soon as you trigger the Nutty Fever Event, you want to immediately use a Medium Pet Toy on your Chubby Chipmunk, because the Grow A Garden Pet Toys boost both the weight gain of the Chipmunk, but also the interval of how often they eat, so it’s a three-pronged attack:
- Apply the Nutty Pet Shard
- Trigger the Nutty Fever Event
- Apply the Medium Pet Toy (and also the Small Pet Toy if you have them crafted for a bigger boost)

Remember, at the beginning, your Chubby Chipmunk will only gain a tiny amount of weight for each fruit it eats (0.010kg) and at a long time cooldown (1:58 minutes), but as the Chubby Chipmunk gets heavier, it will get heavier with each fruit it eats, and the cooldown time will shorten over time.
Right now, my Chubby Chipmunk is 19.98kg, and without any toys boosting it, and without the Nutty Fever event being triggered, its ability is:
“Every 1:29 minutes, eats a fruit in your garden and gains 0.029KG weight (ignores favorited or single-harvest fruits).
After eating, an Acorn will spawn somewhere! Collecting it grants a random reward.”
It is so boring and slow at the start of the event, but once your chipmunk gets its weight going, it grows so much quicker, so don’t give up too soon.
I would recommend going AFK overnight for one night to get it going, as my Chubby Chipmunk now reaches the rewards milestones so much quicker.
The max weight for the top reward is 50kg, so it is genuinely going to take days to get there. The top reward is the Pecan seed, but the reward I want the most is for 46.43kg, and it’s the Fortune Squirrel, and that pet is a mutation pet, and applies the Jackpot mutation (x15 multiplier).
This isn’t an event that’s easy and quick to grind, but there are things we can do to boost the weight gain for our Chubby Chipmunks, and hopefully these tips help, and you can get tonnes of the Nutty Chests to get the Acorn Seed and Chinchilla Pet (both of which I’ve already got from doing all of the above tips).
