It’s a sad day if you own the Nihonzaru pet within Grow A Garden. As of today, Jandel has completely removed the pet’s passive and ability, so it literally does nothing, all because of the crazy exploits players had been doing. Keep on reading to find out more…

The Nihonzaru is one of the six pets you can hatch out of a Zen Egg, which launched during the Zen update.
It’s a super common pet within the Zen Eggs, as it’s the second most common pet with a 31% chance, after the Shiba Inu with 40% chance.
When the Zen Update launched, the ability of the Nihonzaru pet was:
“As long as you have a Hot Spring in your garden, the pet bathes in it, and boosts all pet’s passives by a small percentage.”
You had to purchase a Hot Spring cosmetic item from the Zen Shop, using Chi Points, and when you place the hot spring in your garden, the monkey walks over to it, and gets in it, and either jumps up and down within the hot spring, or it lays down in it.

Ever since the Zen Egg launched, the Nihonzaru monkey has been used for exploits, thanks to the fact it helped improve every other pet in your garden’s passives.
The monkey has been used for lots of different “glitches” and “exploits”, and over the last couple of days, there’s been an insane glitch, which allowed people to stack upto 100 Nihonzaru monkeys by abusing the trade system, with an army of Seals, to get thousands of free eggs.
I know it sounds unbelievable, but I’ve seen videos and screenshots of people doing it, and they were doing it with the premium Primal Eggs, to brute hatch hundreds of rainbow hatched pets (like the highly coveted rainbow hatched Dilophosaurus).
I loved my Nihonzarus and used them in two of my three pet loadouts:
- Loadout 1: 1 x Rainbow Blood Kiwi, 4 x Bald Eagles & 3 x Nihonzarus (for hatching 4 hour eggs in only 90 minutes)
- Loadout 2: 5 x Aged Seals & 3 Nihonzarus (for selling unwanted pets to get free eggs)

Now, the passive has dropped on all of the seals, my blood kiwi and bald eagles, because the Nihonzarus no longer offer any passive improvement.
They literally just sit in the hot spring and “relax” and don’t offer any improvement to your other pets, so they are now utterly pointless.
Jandel and the dev team could introduce a new passive for the Nihonzaru in the future, as other pets have had their passives removed completely, like the Seagull and the Squirrel.
Both the Seagull and Squirrel were exploited, and they both had at least 2-3 weeks of zero ability, before they were given a new one, so it could literally be *weeks* until we get a new passive introduced.
I wouldn’t recommend getting rid of your aged or mutated Nihonzarus just yet, as they could still be useful in the future, but right now, there’s literally no point having any equipped in your garden, as they’ll offer you zero benefit whatsoever, which is so frustrating.
