Ever since Grow A Garden launched their Pet Update on May 3rd, and at the time of writing this post, there are currently 44 different pets within Grow A Garden, and that number includes both limited time unavailable pets (like the Panda and Chicken Zombie), and pets which are currently available within the game right now.
I know I have many favorite pets, but there are a lot of pets which are disappointing, and offer very minimal benefits, and in my opinion, are not worth having in your garden. You want your pets to help you make more money, or be more efficient, and these pets will not do that.

Obviously, this is just my opinion, and if you love any of these pets, that’s absolutely fine, but my choices are based on the benefit each pet offers, so keep on reading to see which pets are the 5 worst pets to own in the Grow A Garden game.

Cow
The first pet on my “worst” list is the cow. I will start by saying I really like the cow design, and the moo sound it makes when you hatch it is so cute.
The cow can be found inside the legendary egg, which is 3,000,000 each. So, you’d assume the pets inside the legendary egg would be legendary?
Wrong. Firstly, you end up getting the cow an insane amount of times. It does have a chance percentage of 42.55%, but it feels like that percentage is actually much, much higher, as all I ever get is cows.
Bad luck percentage aside, this cow is just pointless. The Grow A Garden cow allows all plants within 8 studs, to grow 1.12% faster.
OK, firstly, there is zero mention in the pet’s information on the time frame for this to happen. All of the other pets in the game give you a time frame, so you know how many minutes apart their benefit happens – be it seconds or minutes.
8 studs is a very small amount, it’s just eight of the little “studs” on the floor, but in a circle surrounding the cow, so it’s really not very far, but an increase of 1.12% faster is so unbelievably minimal.
How do we know often the cow’s benefit happens? Having had the cow, it looks like it’s around 15 to 20 minutes, but as there’s no mention, it’s impossible to know. Whenever I get a cow, I jump right on over to Raphael and get it sold.

Bunny & Black Bunny
My next pet I highly recommend selling if you ever hatch one, and it’s kinda cheating because it’s two pets, but it’s the same pet in two color variations, and the benefit is practically identical, so I’m including it, or them, should I say.
It is the bunny and black bunny. The bunny is a pet from the Common Egg, which costs 50,000 sheckles, and is the most affordable egg to purchase in-game. The black bunny is one of the pets inside the Uncommon Egg, and those are 150,000 sheckles.
Both bunnies are very common to hatch, but they have the worst benefit in the game, in my opinion.
For the normal bunny, this pet will eat a carrot from your garden every 40 seconds, and you’ll receive 1.5x cash for the carrot it eats.
For the black bunny, this rabbit, will, every 40 seconds, look for a carrot in your garden, eat it, and give you the 1.5x cash for the carrot it ate.
The carrots have such a low value. They sell for around 20 to 32 sheckles per carrot. So, the rabbits giving you 1.5x cash for a single carrot every 40 seconds isn’t going to make you much money at all.
Plus, carrots take up so much valuable real estate within your farm, so if I had to choose my number one worst pet in the game, it would be the rabbits.

Deer & Spotted Deer
This is another duo, but it’s the same animal technically, with the same sort of benefit, so I feel it’s fair to include them together.
It is the deer and the spotted deer. With the deer coming in the uncommon egg, which is 150,000 sheckles, and the spotted deer can be found inside the rare eggs, and they are 600,000 sheckles.
With the normal deer, it gives you a 3% chance for any berry plants you have, to replant themselves once you’ve harvested/picked all the berries.
With the spotted deer, it gives you a 5% chance for any berry plants you have planted to not disappear when you harvest them.
So, you get a higher chance with the spotted deer, but it works with raspberries (which you can get from Eloise in the Gear Shop Quest), blueberries and strawberries.
All of the berries sell for a tiny amount of money, similar to the carrots. Raspberries sell for 80 sheckles+ each, blueberries sell for 20 sheckles+ each and strawberries sell for 18 sheckles+ each.
Yes, with the two deer, you’d be duplicating a berry here and there, but we are talking about a 3% chance.
You could have almost any other pet, and it would make you more money, except the mice, as those give you quicker walking or higher jumping, but duplicate berries isn’t going to make you much money, and the berry bushes all take up so much room.
Berries are a great starter crop when you first start the game, but to get the deer, you need either 150,000 sheckles for the uncommon egg, or 600,000 sheckles for the rare egg, both of which are prices starter players won’t be able to afford.

Hedgehog
In fourth place is the hedgehog. It pains me to include the hedgehog in this line-up, as the design is so cute, and I love the way it scurries along the floor, but the benefit is so mid, it’s just not worthwhile, in my opinion.
To get the hedgehog, you either need to open a Night Egg, as it is one of six pets you can get inside the Night Eggs, or you needed to have done the Lunar Glow Event with Wise Old Owl.
When you do the quest, and hand over your moonlit and bloodlit fruit, you get the hedgehog as the first reward within the reward track.
You can get some really giant hedgehogs too, which somehow look even cuter, but they’re so underwhelming with what they can offer you and your farm.
It gives your prickly fruit a 1.5x size increase – so think dragon fruit, durian or cactus fruit. You have to have one of those plants in your garden, otherwise, you will not notice a benefit of any kind.
With a cactus, you get maybe 2-3 fruits per crop, and they go for around 3000 sheckles on average, depending on size.
With the dragon fruit, you get up to 5 at one time, but they are insanely slow to grow, and go for 4000 sheckles on average, depending on size.
There’s the durian, but that’s not a seed that’s available in-game anymore, and they go for around 4500 per fruit on average.
With the 1.5 size increase, that is a decent increase, especially compared to the likes of the cow, but it’s so limiting, as it’s only spiky fruit that it’ll benefit.

Frog
The last pet in my 5 worst pets to own in the Grow A Garden game is the frog, and I’m gutted to include the frog, as I just love its design, and the way it hops around your farm is adorable.
Cute appearance and animation aside, the frog pet can be found inside the Night Eggs, which were something you could purchase in the Blood Moon shop or Twilight shop, or you could earn them by doing the Lunar Glow quest.
There are six pets available within the Night Eggs, and there are two frogs; the standard frog (which is this one) and the echo frog.
With this more basic type frog, it quickens the growth of a random crop in your garden every 20 mins.
One random crop every 20 minutes. Plus, it’s only quickening the growth, and not enhancing the growth.
The rain weather event is SO common in game, and that doubles the growth of all crops, and this one pet will quicken the growth of one single crop, without enhancing the crop.
To me, it’s just a pointless pet to own. If you love the design, that’s different, but I wouldn’t waste one of my pet slots for this pet, when there are so many other pets that’ll give you more helpful benefits to either earn more, or make your harvesting job easier.
