If you like gaming, and or Roblox, it will have been hard to ignore the crazy popular gardening sim; Grow A Garden. Believe it or not, it only launched on Roblox at the end of March, and this weekend, the game broke the Roblox record for concurrent users, for the launch of their Chicken Zombie and Blood Moon update.
Everybody is talking about this game, and I wanted to do a round-up of five reasons I personally feel like this game is different from the millions of other sim games, and why I think you ought to give the game a try (if you haven’t already, of course).

Grow A Garden has a super simple name, but it describes the game perfectly. The goal is simply to create your own garden, and having fun while doing so.
When you first start, you get a garden plot of eight rectangular gardening beds, each of which are bordered by raised beds, and there’s a little fence that goes around the perimeter.
You can play in your own DIY private server for free (each player can create one single private server for free), or you can join a communal game with five other players.
I love that you have the option of playing alone, or you can play with others doing their own gardens around you, and getting inspiration on layouts, placements and designs.
It is a super retro Roblox game in that it’s a blocky game, but that’s kinda why it’s so magic. It’s simple, it’s easy-to-follow, and you can join a game right this second having never played it, and have zero issues getting started.
Let’s get onto the five reasons I think you should try Grow A Garden…

Community
I have enjoyed gaming since I was super young, and I’ve loved gaming ever since. I love a good simulator game, where you can pick it up and play whenever you want, without feeling left behind, or overwhelmed.
As I’ve loved gaming, I’ve enjoyed participating in the social media community side of gaming, and for some games, the community can be a little unwelcoming to put it one way. It can be competitive, bitchy, moany and negative, and it’s a mood hoover reading it all the time.
The Grow A Garden community is unlike any gaming community I’ve seen. People are SO nice. If you share a Dress To Impress outfit on Reddit or TikTok, be prepared to have it torn to shreds or ridiculed, as people feel entitled to criticize whomever they like.
Grow A Garden’s Reddit is insanely positive, and that feels like an oxymoron in itself. Reddit tends to be the place to avoid if you’re feeling at all sensitive or down, as it’s brutal, but the Grow A Garden Reddit is amazing.
People share tips, have a laugh in the comments, offer free fruit or pets, and are just genuinely so kind to one another.
Yes, of course, there will be an exception to the rule, but just look at the Grow A Garden Subreddit for yourself, people are kind, and you don’t have to worry about ridicule for just asking a question, which isn’t always the case with Dress To Impress.
It is still a tiny Subreddit at this point, but you can even join the Discord, and people are genuinely so nice.
When you’re playing a game with other people, it shows your currency balance in the top corner, and you can see who’s minted, and who’s a newbie.
I have seen players donate fruit and pets to newbies without chatting, or hesitation, just because they can see a player’s new, and someone did exactly the same thing to me too.
I had only joined the game for 10 mins, and two different players came over unannounced with free gifts for no reason other than to be kind, and it is so refreshing.

Easy To Learn
There is no learning curve with Grow A Garden, and it’s the kind of game that everyone would enjoy, of all ages. It’s so simple, but it’s so enjoyable building out your “farm”, and choosing how you want to have your flower beds to look.
Are you going to focus on aesthetics? Or do you want to focus on profit, only planting the highest money making crops? Or both?
I love that with tools like the trowel, you can just move crops wherever you want (unless it’s a mushroom or big bamboo), so you can change up your theme or design with very little effort.
It’s just so easy. You plant crops, wait for them to grow and sell them. While growing, there are weather events that can happen, which can alter the color and effect of the crop, like rain, snow, ice, lightning, shooting stars, a blood moon or a full moon.
All of these events will beautify your crops for one, but most importantly, increase the value of your crops considerably. The more money you make, the better seeds you can buy.
There are mini quests every day to do, where you can earn seeds from the Gear Shop Quests, or do Wise Old Owl’s quests to earn rare eggs and seeds.
It is unbelievably easy, and anyone could pick it up right now and be able to play.

Regularity Of Updates
I love Dress To Impress, especially when we have new updates to look forward to. We had 52 days between the Valentine’s Update and the April Fool’s update. It was crickets.
Dress To Impress will always be my favorite game, but I feel like they lost momentum by having such big breaks between exciting update. I’m not sure chicken feet and a flamethrower we could only use for a day count as exciting, but it’s just not the same as it was between Summer 2024 and October 2024 – that was peak DTI.
Grow A Garden have a new update almost every week, or something new at least. We had the Chicken Zombie update this past Saturday, and this Saturday we have an even more exciting update (I’ll write about that asap).
Crazy Successful
This game launched at the end of March, and look how viral it has gone already?
It’s so refreshing to play a game that’s being updated and improved constantly, and this game is literally under three months old, what?!
Imagine where they’ll be by Christmas? I am so excited to see the progress.
It’s exciting to be part of a game when it is still so, so new, and we can witness the development of the game.

It’s Free
Grow A Garden is a free Roblox game, and you never need to spend a penny to have immense fun. Like all Roblox games, there are of course, gamepasses, that are totally optional.
But, in Grow A Garden, you aren’t held back by not spending any money, whereas with DTI, I feel like the difference between having VIP and non-VIP is considerable now.
You can spend money on extra eggs, seed packs or crops, but there’s literally no need.
Plus, as it’s Roblox, you click two buttons to play, without having to download anything or buying a game.
I would love for you to give Grow A Garden a try, if you haven’t already. I genuinely believe you’ll love it. If you don’t, what do you have to lose?
