Grow A Garden dropped their Garden Games update yesterday (Saturday, Jan 3rd) and they didn’t even announce the update anywhere within their official Discord, which has 5.2 million members.
Whenever there’s a new update, we get an announcement within the official Discord. It always used to be Wednesdays for the announcements, and over the last few months, the update announcements have been getting later and later, and this week, they didn’t even care enough to tell anyone about the update.

Not only that, they didn’t even mention the update, once it had launched, within the Discord, where they always, always announce the update, list everything that’s new (pets, seeds, QoL, game mechanics etc). Literally, nothing was posted within the official Discord since the 26th of December.
They didn’t even bother to say happy new year anywhere within the Discord, which just highlights, to me, the devs have checked out of the game, and just don’t care anymore.
The Grow A Garden fan base made them break records this year, they won them MULTIPLE Roblox awards; Best New Experience, Best Simulation Game, People’s Choice, and Most Concurrent Players.
The fan base has made the developers and the studio that owns the game; The Garden Game a serious amount of money, and not one person posted happy new year or thank you anywhere within the Discord or any other platform.
When the Garden Games update launched yesterday, even hours after it dropped, people were still asking was there an update? What is the update? What do we do?
DJ Jhai still announced the update for Plants Vs Brainrots, the admin abuse times and did the post-launch update message in Discord like normal, so why did they just refuse for Grow A Garden? It’s madness.

The Garden Games update is infinitely better than the New Year update, but the update brought a major pet nerf, and it might be the biggest pet nerf we’ve ever seen within the game, and it involves Seals.
Seals are one of the best pets to own within the game, because, once equipped, they give you a chance to get a free egg back for each unwanted pet you sell.
This is not the first time Seals were nerfed. Originally, a maxed out seal would give you an 8% chance of getting an egg back, when selling an unwanted pet to the Sell Shop (or using the Sell All feature), so if you had 8 x maxed out Seals, you could get a 64% chance of getting an egg back, per pet you sold.
The first nerf came in August, where they changed the Seal’s description to read that a maxed out seal will give you an 8% chance to get the egg back, with the bonus being capped at 50% per egg sold.

The new nerf is absolutely insane. The description on a maxed out 37kg Seal, which, until yesterday, gave you an 8% chance for an egg back, now reads:
“Selling pets have a 2.85% chance to get the pet back as its egg equivalent! Cannot get Premium/Exotic/Rainbow eggs back. This bonus is capped at 7% per pet sold.“
So, my 37kg Seal, which gave me an 8% chance of an egg back, now only gives me a 2.85% chance of my egg back, and if you have 8 x maxed out seals, the total bonus is capped at 7% per pet sold.
That is not 7% per Seal, like before. It is 7% per pet sold, regardless if you have eight seals or one godly seal.
Let’s break those new statistics down:
- Selling 13 pets: You would expect to get 0.91 eggs on average
- Selling 20 pets: You would expect to get 1.4 eggs on average
- Selling 100 pets: You would expect to get 7 eggs on average.
Selling 100 unwanted pets, would get you 7 eggs back, on average.
Why have they done this? Talk in the Discord suggests it’s to try and make pets have better value again. With Seals, people can farm an event’s egg over and over, by selling the unwanted pets, but I don’t think it’s because of this, personally.

I think, because of Trade Tokens, we can now buy Premium Eggs with the tokens, and not just Robux, and I think this has probably massively decreased the revenue the game makes, because why would you ever pay Robux for eggs, if you can use tokens? I’ve not spent any Robux in-game, since the introduction of trading tokens.
People make a lot of tokens by selling unwanted pets within the Trading Plaza, and the players that buy those unwanted pets, go back to their garden, and sell them to try and get free eggs, so they can hatch the pets they *do* want from the egg.

By only allowing players 7 eggs back, when selling 100 unwanted pets, people won’t be able to make as much money in the Trading Plaza anymore. Are you going to risk spending 10 to 30 tokens per trash pet, to try and get an egg back?
No, of course not. You’d need 100 trash pets to get on average, 7 eggs back (maybe even less than that), meaning, you’d have to spend 1000 tokens to 3000 tokens for 100 trash pets within the trading plaza for 7 eggs back.
If you’re in the official Grow A Garden Discord, please go to the General chat, and just observe the flooding of messages from players. The backlash is insane, and 100% rightly so.
This isn’t the first Seal nerf we’ve had, but this is, in my opinion, the worst game nerf they’ve done, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens to the player count between now and the end of March; the one-year anniversary of the game. Could this be the beginning of the end, for long-time fans?
