As of writing this post, there are 36 pets within Grow A Garden. All pets within the game (and seeds) are given a rating in how rare they are.
With the pets, you can only get Grow A Garden pets via eggs, or through the Blood Moon Shop or Twilight Shop.
How rare a pet is rated within the game, determines how valuable the pet is, and how much money it’ll go for within the pet shop, as you can sell your unwanted pets.
If you’d like the full low-down on the “dog” pet within the game, keep on reading…

How Do You Get The Dog In Grow A Garden?
The Dog pet can only be obtained via the Common Egg.
Common Eggs are the eggs you’ll most frequently see whenever the pet shop’s egg stock is refreshed every 30 mins.
Each of the common eggs cost 50,000 sheckles, and it’s a plain white egg.
Within the common eggs, you can get one of three different pets:
- Dog – 33.33% chance
- Golden Lab – 33.33% chance
- Bunny – 33.33% chance
The dog is white, with brown floppy ears and a brown spot over one eye.

What Are The Benefits Of Owning The Grow A Garden Dog?
Although the dog is one of the three most common pets within the game, I actually find it to be one of the most helpful.
Firstly, the pets from the common eggs are the easiest to feed.
You can feed them something very small with low value (like an apple), and it’ll almost always fill up their entire hunger bar, which helps with levelling up the pets.
So, you don’t have to use your best crops to keep them filled up.
I like aging up the dogs quickly, and then trading them in with Raphael at the pet shop, to unlock extra pet slots, and extra egg slots, so you don’t have to part with the more valuable pets.
When it comes to the trait the dogs have, every 59.18 seconds, there’s a 5.14% chance that the dog will dig up a random seed.

You’ll get a ping noise and a notification on the screen that reads “dog has dug up an X seed“, and you’ll see a floating seed on the screen with a countdown of 30 seconds, where you need to collect the seed within the 30 seconds, or it disappears.
It is almost always a carrot seed or tomato seed, even if you don’t have those crops in your farm.
Very, very occasionally you’ll get a more decent seed but almost always it’s either a carrot or tomato.
For me, the main benefit, is how quickly you can age the dog (and other two pets from the common eggs), so you can unlock those extra pet slots, and extra egg slots.
But, I do think the dog design is really cute, and you’ll see it do a fun digging animation in the mud, which is nice for one of the more basic pets.
