Have you heard people talking about overpowered the lightning rod is in Grow A Garden, but you’re unsure what it is, what it does, or how to get the best results?
I’m going to give you an in-depth overview of the lightning rod, and explain why you need to buy one, whenever you see it in stock.

The lightning rod is just one of the tools you can purchase within the Gear Shop, which is run by Eloise, in Grow A Garden.
In the Gear Shop, you can purchase tools to help you with your gardening, like watering cans, sprinkles and a trowel for moving crops.
Some of the items are rarer than others, and the Lightning Rod is described as being Mythical, and it really is rare.
I find that it only comes in stock maybe once every two days, so it is very hard to get hold of.
The lightning rod is 1,000,000 (one million sheckles) or 179 Robux, and the description within the Gear Shop reads:
“Redirects lighting 3 times before being destroyed“

What Does The Lightning Rod Do In Grow A Garden?
The lightning rod is a metal pole that you place in your garden, within any of the plots, and during a thunderstorm, it’ll redirect lightning which strikes within one of your garden’s plots, so it hits your crops.
When lightning hits your crops, the crops get the shocked mutation, and the shocked mutation is a x100 multiplier, making it one of the most valuable mutations in the game.
While each rod is expensive at 1 million sheckles, the shocked mutation hitting your crops will recoup your money back, and much, much more.
If you have the lightning rod positioned within one of your plots, and the lightning strikes your crops, it always hits multiple crops at once, and is usually 4-6 crops in the area, depending on the size of the fruits.
Once the lightning rod has redirected lightning on three occasions, which could be during the one thunderstorm, depending on how lucky you are to have three strikes within your garden, the lightning rod disappears.
Remember, once you’ve placed your lightning rod, you cannot move it again.
Make sure you choose the perfect location before clicking, as you will not be able to change its location. You can use the shovel on it to destroy it, but there’s no option to move it once it’s placed.

Tips For Using The Grow A Garden Lightning Rod
You need to be careful when placing your lightning rod, because you cannot place two rods close to each other.
If you try and place a rod near another, you’ll get a pop-up message to tell you that you’re too close to an existing lightning rod.
Seeing as each rod is one million sheckles, you need to be considerate on where you place it.
You want to place it next to your best crops in your garden, so your biggest, rarest or most mutated fruits, as this will be make it more likely that the lightning will strike your chosen crops.
If you have fruits that are already mutated, using the lightning rod will help you achieve the coveted shocked mutation, rather than relying on just luck that the lightning will strike your garden.
Sometimes you can be lucky and have 5-6 strikes in your garden, from the one 2 minute thunderstorm, but you can end up with no strikes.
With my rods, I like to place one in each corner of my garden, to try and encourage widespread shocked mutations, and to give a greater chance of the lightning strikes within my garden.
However, if I’ve done the sprinkler method to achieve massive fruits, I’ll place a rod in the middle of the fruits (as shown in the photo above), and it always works on hitting them, and increasing the value considerably; I have almost 300 billion sheckles thanks to this method.
If you have been struck by lightning, and your crops have the shocked mutation, they will glow a luminous color, depending on the original color, but most fruits tend to glow white or orange, and they really stand out, so you won’t be able to miss them.
Don’t forget to use the Favorite Tool if you have good-sized, shocked mutation fruits, if you play in public servers, as they will now have at least a 100x multiplier, and people can steal other people’s fruits when they pay 37 Robux, which is an awful game mechanic, but it is what it is.
