Whenever Grow A Garden launches a new egg, there’s always one super rare, but super overpowered pet, and for the Prehistoric Update, they introduced the new Dinosaur Egg, with the T Rex being the rarest dinosaur you can find inside the Dinosaur Eggs. Keep on reading to find out all about the new T Rex pet…

What Is The Grow A Garden T Rex Pet?
The Grow A Garden T-Rex pet is the rarest pet from the six pets inside the Dinosaur Egg.
There are two ways in which you can get your hands on a Dinosaur Egg:
- Complete the daily Prehistoric Quest via the Blaire NPC on the Prehistoric Display (the quest resets every 12 hours, so you can get 2 eggs per 24 hours)
- Hand an unwanted pet to the Graham NPC (any pet apart from a dinosaur) and he’ll turn it into a Dinosaur Egg or a fully grown dinosaur over 60 minutes.
Once you’ve got your Dinosaur Egg, you’ll need to place it in your garden, and wait 4 hours for it to hatch.
When it does hatch, you’ll get one of these six dinosaurs:
- Raptor – 35% chance
- Triceratops – 32.5% chance
- Stegosaurus – 28% chance
- Pterodactyl – 3% chance
- Brontosaurus – 1% chance
- T. Rex – 0.5% chance
The T Rex pet has a similar design to the Raptor, especially when you first hatch it. They’re both green, although the T-Rex is a deeper green, I honestly thought I’d hatched my millionth Raptor when my T-Rex hatched.
The only obvious difference between them, is the T-Rex has a light colored stomach, and is a deeper green, so always double-check your dinosaurs in your inventory before selling, just incase you hatched one without noticing.

In the promo photo for the Dinosaur event (above), the T-Rex pet was brown, so I wonder why they changed the color at the last minute? I think it would’ve been better brown, as none of the other pets are brown, so it would’ve stood out a little better.
The T-Rex walks around the farm, and has a leaning over pose, just like a T-Rex, with its little arms and long tail. I really like the design, but wish the color was a little different to the Raptor, as they do look so similar.

What Are The Benefits Of The Grow A Garden T Rex Pet?
Every 20:06 minutes, the T-Rex devours a random mutation from your garden, then roars, spreading that mutation to 3.29 other random fruits in your garden.
When it does it’s ability, it walks upto its chosen fruit, bends right down with its head on the floor, has an animation like it “eats” something, swallows it, and then opens its mouth to roar.

Here’s a photo example of the notification on the screen of the three fruits it converts with the mutation.
It also highlights the fruits/flowers it mutated for a couple of seconds, so you get an idea of what got newly mutated (you can see two of the three fruits it mutated highlighted in blue – and they’re not next to each other, although they are all Lilacs in this example).
It doesn’t, however, show you or tell you which fruit it removed the mutation from.

There has been a lot of debate on whether the T-Rex “eats” and removes the mutation, or does it just copy and spread the mutation.
I can 100% confirm that it will eat and remove the mutation from the fruit it chooses, and then chooses 3 random fruits anywhere in your garden to give the mutation. The fruits do not need to be anywhere near where the T-Rex does its roar animation.
It absolutely does remove the mutation from the fruit it chooses, because it took the Galactic mutation from my bamboo, which was the only fruit in my garden with that mutation, and it gave the Galactic mutation to three other fruits (a moon melon, a sugar apple and a guanabana) which didn’t have the mutation.
However, the bamboo which was originally galactic, was no longer galactic, so your original fruit does have that singular mutation removed, which can be a real negative, if it’s say a shocked mutation on a sunflower – you’ll lose SO much money.
On the flip side, you could have a VoidTouched bamboo, and the T-Rex removes it, and spreads it to a Sunflower, Lumira and Moon Blossom, and you’d make an insanely large amount of money.
There isn’t an option, like with the Butterfly, where if you favorite a fruit/flower, it protects it from being touched by the pet, which I think would be a good thing to have with the T-Rex.
It does mostly do lower value mutations, like Wet, Drenched, Windstruck and Moonlit, but I have seen my two T. Rex work on Galactic, Shocked (very often), AlienLike and Sundried too, which all carry very high multipliers.
Obviously, you could lose a lot of money, if a high value multiplier was removed, but you could get the mutation back again with admin events, or the new spray gears, so you don’t necessarily lose it forever.
