The Grow A Garden T Rex pet is the rarest pet you can hatch from a Dinosaur Egg.
There are six dinosaurs you could potentially hatch from the Dinosaur Egg, and the T Rex pet is the most popular pet, and for good reason, as it’s an amazing way to spread mutations around your garden.
Due to the vague description, there’s some debate on whether the T Rex pet removes a mutation from a fruit, before spreading the mutation onto three over fruits, but I have the definitive answer on what actually happens, so keep on reading…

The Grow A Garden T-Rex pet is one of six dinos you can hatch from the Dinosaur Egg, and the full list of dinosaurs within the egg are:
- Raptor – 35% chance
- Triceratops – 32.5% chance
- Stegosaurus – 28% chance
- Pterodactyl – 3% chance
- Brontosaurus – 1% chance
- T. Rex – 0.5% chance
When it comes to what the T Rex does, the description says that every 20:06 minutes, the T-Rex devours a random mutation from your garden, then roars, spreading that mutation to 3.29 other random fruits in your garden.

When the T Rex does its ability, it tilts its head down to the floor and opens its mouth like it’s eating the mutation, and then it stands up tall with its mouth open, with a roaring animation.
You then get three notifications on the screen at the same time telling you exactly which mutation the T Rex “devoured” and the three crops it spread the mutation too.
It’s kinda vague, in that it just says “lilac” or “dandelion”, but the crops that have been mutated by the T Rex do glow for two seconds, so you can spot them, if you’re in the right area of your garden.
People have been debating what actually happens to the original fruit the T Rex “devours” the mutation from, saying it just copies the mutation and applies it to 3 other fruit, but that is 100% not the case.

I can 100% confirm that it will eat and remove the mutation from the original fruit it chooses (at random), and then it chooses 3 random fruits anywhere in your garden to give the mutation. The fruits do not need to be anywhere near where the T-Rex does the eating and roar animation.
It absolutely does remove the mutation from the fruit it chooses, because it took the Galactic mutation from my bamboo, which was the only fruit in my garden with that mutation, and it gave the Galactic mutation to three other fruits (a moon melon, a sugar apple and a guanabana) which didn’t have the mutation.

However, the bamboo which was originally galactic, was no longer galactic, so your original fruit does have that singular mutation removed, which can be a real negative, if it’s say a shocked mutation on a sunflower – you’ll lose SO much money.
On the flip side, you could have a VoidTouched bamboo, and the T-Rex removes it, and spreads it to a Sunflower, Lumira and Moon Blossom, and you’d make an insanely large amount of money.
There isn’t an option, like with the Butterfly, where if you favorite a fruit/flower, it protects it from being touched by the pet, which I think would be a good thing to have with the T-Rex, as you could lose out on so many sheckles.

You will notice that the T Rex most often “eats” super common, low value mutations like wet, drenches, windstruck and clay, but it does do higher value mutations too, like celestial, galactic and alienlike, but that is very infrequent.
I really do think the devs need to add a feature where we can favorite fruits we don’t want the T Rex to touch, so we can fully protect the fruit we don’t want altering, just like they do with the butterfly, but if you do place a T Rex in your garden, be prepared that you could lose mutations from your very best fruits.
