The MAC x Basquiat Collaboration is officially launching as a collaboration between MAC Cosmetics and the late Jean-Michel Basquiat.
We saw Urban Decay create a colorful Basquiat collaboration back in 2017 (how on earth was it that long ago?), and now we have a whole MAC collection dedicated to the American artist. Keep on reading to find out more…
The MAC x Basquiat Collaboration is launching in a couple of days, and it will be a limited edition collection that draws inspiration from the unconventional creativity and art of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
We haven’t seen a decent sized collaboration from MAC in quite a while. They obviously launched the Viva Glam x Chappell Roan collection, but this is quite a large collection of products inspired by Basquiat as a person and his artwork.
Let’s take a look at the products in the collection…
The MAC x Basquiat Collaboration will include two MAC Matte Lipsticks. Each of the lipsticks have black matte packaging with gold foil detailing, and there’s a crown detail on the top of the usual shape of the MAC lipstick lid.
The formula of the two lipsticks is the MAC Maximal Silky Matte with the shade Ruby Worcester (vibrant blue-red) and Bowery Brown (neutral brown).
The MAC x Basquiat Collaboration includes three shades of the old-style MAC Pigment Colour Powders.
MAC ditched their pigments, which was a travesty, so it’s good to see them back and the three shades are; Abstraction (metallic taupe), Negative Space (shimmery white) and Crowned (metallic gold).
The MAC x Basquiat Pastel Painting Eye + Face Chalks look so intriguing.
They come in a plastic tube to keep them from drying out. MAC describes the formula as having a chalk-texture for the eyes and face, and you can adjust the color intensity.
There are two limited edition shades; Royal Blueprint (sky blue) and King Pleasure (metallic brown).
The next piece in the MAC x Basquiat Collaboration are the Oil Effect Eye Paints are tube-type products inspired by oil paintings.
They have a paint-like texture which you can blend for a sheer look, or layer for a deeper and more intense finish.
For these eye paints, there are three limited edition shades; Basquiat Blue (bright navy blue), Oil Slick (black) and 1982 (mid-tone brown).
There is also a MAC x Basquiat Famous Makeup Brush Set with four eye and cheek brushes, with matte black handles, gold ferrules and black bristles.
As well as the five brushes, you get a black and gold brush pouch for storing them inside with a crown on the front, and the same crown as a charm on the zip.
The collection also includes a mixing palette and spatula in gold, which can be used for mixing makeup and skincare products together; like the paints in the collection.
There’s an amazing black and gold bag too, which is so unlike anything MAC usually does for their collabs. It’s hard to judge the size of the bag just looking at this picture, but it looks like it could potentially be quite big with a zipped inner compartment.
Everything in the MAC x Basquiat Collaboration launches in just a couple of days, and will be available right here.
